2024 Autumn Gathering

The Trust held an event at the exquisite and historic Hoare’s Bank building. A panel discussion focused on support from high-net-worth individuals with philanthropist, Derek Lubner of iZinga Assist, Carole Day, CEO of Afrika Tikkun UK, and Paula Yarrow, Global Development Director at Waves for Change. Their insightful discussions, with substantial audience input, demystified the process of engaging philanthropists and explored strategies for successful partnerships.

Waves for Change showcased a video shown at the Paris Olympic Games, highlighting their work alleviating children’s mental health challenges through surfing and care. Their presentation was made even more impactful by the presence of two South African team members, Jamie Lee Davids and Jose Peffer, whose lives have been positively transformed by the organisation.

Buskaid, represented by Mary-Jannet Leith, shared a superb film about their remarkable work over decades in Diepkloof, Soweto. The audience was enthralled by the children’s musical talent and the life-changing work of Rosemary Nalden and her team.

As meeting others supporting work done in southern and South Africa is integral to the mission of the Network, Hoare’s Bank generously provided refreshments and a beautiful venue for a reception after the formalities.
